November SLE – Compassion by sharing our time, talents, and treasures:  Go and show love to everyone, because your life is a precious mission: it is not a burden to be borne, but a gift to offer.  Pope Francis

Dear Parents,

As we begin a new month at school, we have started talking about the Schoolwide Learning Expectation of Compassion.  On Monday, I visited with students about really trying to be aware of the people around us, certainly our friends, family, classmates, etc., but also our neighbors, the person walking by us at the store, or the homeless person on the corner.  I asked them to try and think about what someone else is going through & experiencing.  In those moments, we can share Christ’s love for one another.  With a smile, with a hug, with kind words, or some other acknowledgement acknowledgment of where they are.  I pray that we can all see past the exterior of those around us and be more aware of what others are going through and how we can share God’s love with them.

We are “officially” opening “Dorothy’s Library” tomorrow morning.  Our library remodel is being dedicated to the memory of Sacred Heart’s Dorothy Ansotegui.  Dorothy’s family will be here to celebrate with us, as Fr. Rob blesses the library.  We are so excited to have this space, and are grateful to all those who gave generously to make it happen.  Our volunteers & contractors worked incredibly hard and gave from their hearts to create a space for our students and staff that is already being used so much more effectively than it was before.  It is a beautiful and useful room, and now houses a space that doubles as a conference room and a space for our Reading Specialist to work with students.  We are so blessed!  If you have not been in to see the library this week, please stop by after to see it soon.  I could not be happier with the way it turned out!

Yesterday we had another fire drill at Sacred Heart.  Our Sacred Heart students and teachers did a great job evacuating the school, even as I threw some surprises at some of the classes.  I blocked a couple of exits, and they had to quickly adjust their exit strategy.  It went great and everyone did exactly what they were supposed to do!

Sacred Heart will be hosting the 7/8th TVCS dance next Friday night.  The dance will be from 7-9 pm, in the school gym.

Sacred Heart’s Home & School Association is hosting Paint Night with Fr. Bruno, next Friday night, at Our Lady of the Rosary.  This is going to be another fun event with Fr. Bruno, and all proceeds will benefit the school!  If you would like to attend, contact the school office.  Thank you to Sacred Heart parent Tom Starr for organizing this event!

We have had several students absent the last couple of weeks, due to cold and flu symptoms.  Please remind your students to wash hands often, not share food or drinks, and dress for the colder weather.  Thank you!

Please keep in prayer those of our community who are sick, injured, and suffering.

In Christ,

Brock Carpenter
